Materia Prima by Knetsch und Streit

MATERIA PRIMA is an alchemical term meaning “raw material”. However, it also refers to the idea of a special line of jewelry developed by the two goldsmiths and designers Silke Knetsch and Christian Streit, who use this name to refer to the alchemists, the inventors of this unique material.

The idea of porcelain painting originally developed out of necessity in order to cover up small flaws in the firing of the porcelain. This became one of the most respected arts at European courts. A tradition that continues to this day, although it has increasingly faded in recent decades.

The original idea of Silke Knetsch and Christian Streit with their jewelry line MATERIA PRIMA is to translate this highly complex and elaborate craft into the present day and to save it.
